Acne - Science of

A few simple steps occur that cause skin blemishes.
Firstly, acne occurs when for some unknown reason or combination of reasons, hair follicles, also known as pores, becomes blocked. Although the exact combination of reasons that pores become clogged may not be fully known, many contributing elements for teenagers and adults alike can include; genetics (whether or not there is a history of acne problems and if so, to what extent), hormones, dietary and vitamin make up (or lack of /deficiency) and stress related factors.

Other causes could include factors like how your body normally rids itself of its dead skin cells and influences that may be working against this regularity (for example climate and other environmental forces or overall body health at the time) and your hormones and their effect on your own body’s sebum production (especially for females).

Secondly, the normal dead skin cells that combine with your body’s natural sebum oil as it drains through the skin’s surface become clogged in these blocked pores. This substance becomes somewhat sticky, further clogging the passageway.
Thirdly, a bacterium begins to grow around these clogged areas. As a normal reaction, your body’s white blood cells attack the bacteria, fighting it and pushing it out of the body.

And lastly, the resulting growths during this 14-21-day battle are called micro-comedones. Microcomedones turn into comedones, commonly referred to as blemishes, pimples or acne.

There are basically four types of acne; whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and nodules. Whiteheads are when the sebum (oil) and resulting bacteria are trapped below the skin’s surface and you can actually see a white head appear above (or near popping out of) the skin. Blackheads are when the sebum and resulting bacteria are only partially trapped, slowly draining out the surface and turning black because of your skin’s melanin or pigmentation. In the absence of either white or blackhead are generally (but not always) smaller pimples. And the often deeper, boil-like lesions are referred to as nodules.

All forms of acne can be mild, moderate or severe. Typically, mild acne is visible in the form of whiteheads and blackheads, sometimes pimples. With moderate acne, more pimples and pustules are present on the face; some may appear on the back or chest. And with severe acne, many nodules develop, often large and sore, over parts of the face, back, chest and other body areas. This type of acne can lead to scarring. Actually, lesser cases of acne have been followed by scarring. So for those with possible nodular acne, seeking advice from a healthcare provider as soon as possible is recommended.

A gender issue to note is that males more often have the severe form of acne rather than females, due to their hormones. And the areas where they tend to break out most frequently are unfortunately more difficult to treat, the chest and back.

Ten Ways to Calm a Crying Baby

Sometimes newborns and babies just can’t seem to sleep.
The following suggestions may work for your baby:

1. Place your baby on her back and gently move her/his legs as if he/she’s riding a bicycle. She/he may have gas pains and the movement can help.

2. Place the baby on her stomach on a warm (not hot) hot-water bottle. Massage his/her back slowly.

3. Play tapes of music your baby likes.

4. Vacuum the room your baby is in. The sound often soothes irritated babies.

5. Give the baby a warm bath.

6. Take the baby for a ride in her stroller – the fresh air and motion may help calm her/him. Or take her/him for a car ride.

7. Hold your baby close to your chest. Research shows skin-to-skin contact has a calming effect.

8. Wrap the baby snugly in a lightweight blanket.

9. Lay the baby on her stomach across your knees. Move your knees up and down.

10. Buy a mechanical swing for your baby.

Getting Luckier II

Don’t dwell on ill fortune.

The problem with dwelling on ill fortune is that it easily leads to the development of a fatalistic attitude; the unconscious attitude of expecting the worse and resigning to fate, accepting predetermined future written in horoscopes and believing that regardless of your effort, what will happen will happen.

This leads to such people waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen. Always understand that things could have been a lot worse and be thankful.

Expect the best…

People who get good fortune have a knack for expecting the best at all times and even in the face of difficulty still expect a favourable outcome. This attitude makes them more persistent that most others and this leads to even more “lucky” outcomes for them.

Take Action…

A thousand good intentions is not as good as a single action taken.

There is the story of a man who bought a racehorse and put the horse in the barn with a sign that read; “The fastest horse in the world.” The owner never exercised the horse and never trained the horse.

Then one day, he entered the horse in a race, and the horse came bottom. The man quickly changed the sign to “The fastest world for the horse”. By not taking action and not doing what should be done, ill fortune is easily attracted.

Reject superstitions because they have a way of making you ignore improving yourself. For instance, a superstitious person drives a car and gets into an accident.. then goes to blame the car as “unlucky” instead of his own driving.

Lucky people don’t rely on superstitions, instead they focus on working smarter.
As the saying goes.. “Luck Favours those who help themselves” To start getting luckier, start taking more action.

Pray…

Prayers somehow have the effect of presenting you with more favourable outcomes and lands you in more lucky positions than you can ever imagine possible. To start getting luckier, practice praying.

Create Opportunities…

Increase the chances of your getting lucky by creating opportunities for yourself. For instance, make sure you know what you want and let people around you know exactly what you want as well.

If you want a red car, let people around you know you what you want is red, then step back and watch things unfold.

Try new things. When you do the same thing over and over again, expect to get the same results you always got. Try something new, do something different and get a new set of results.

Listen To The Voice of Intuition…

It has probably happened to you more than once. You get a feeling about something and then you ignore it only to discover you could have hit gold by following that guy feeling.

The bad news is that most of our intuitive powers have been weakened by continuous disuse. The next time you get that gut feeling about something, take a closer look.

Is it possible to get luckier? Is there something you can do today that will increase your chances of being luckier today? Why do some people seem to have more luck than others? Is there really anything called luck?

First, you’ve got to understand that there is really no such thing as luck the way we understand it. Luck is basically a function of a combination of actions.

Which means each time someone gets blessed with good fortune, that person has consciously or unconsciously done something that produced that result. Aristotle in his law of causality explains that there is a relationship between one event (called cause) and another event (called effect) which is the direct consequence (result) of the first event.

In plain language, if you knew why someone else is luckier that you are and you take those same steps, you are likely to start getting the same results of good fortune. That means you can attract more luck and you can start immediately.

I am personally fascinated by this and over the years, I discovered a few basic steps to help anyone attract more luck. Note that attracting luck has nothing to do with intelligence. Infact, most of this kind of people are not as bright as you would normally expect.

Be Ready..

Have you noticed that people who we term “lucky” have the uncanny character of being ready for the luck? They seem to be programmed for it and seem to know just when it arrives. For instance, you might notice that when others are not dressed for the occasion of luck, the “lucky” chap will seem to be the only one dressed for it.

The secret is that “lucky” people are always prepared for lucky encounters. They are always ready. They do work place research and know where and how to get what and what, they are always dressed for luck etc

Like the wise saying goes “Faith will move mountains but you better bring along your shovel and be prepared to help with the work.”

Look On The Bright Side..

I want you to think back to the luckiest person you ever met or knew. One distinct character is the fact that these set of people always seem happy and they seem to fall in line with the dictionary’s definition of happy – which goes good fortune, happy outcome etc

The lucky person is mostly the guy with a positive attitude.

A simple way to improve your attitude starting immediately is to think about lucky, happy and positive things that has happened in your life and keep those thoughts in your mind. When things start to go wrong and your attitude begins to go down hill, simply think back to your good fortunes and tell yourself, it will happen again.
